Cobalt Strips for Steam Turbines Blade

Cobalt strips for steam turbines, the edges of some steam turbine blades will be eroded by water droplets produced in the steam turbine, so in many power plants, the cobalt strips(also called cobalt plate) are induction brazed to SUS410Cb steam turbine blades to improve the wear and erosion resistance of blades. Erosion plates/strips are typically made from STP 6 and STP 6B.

The use of Cobalt strips or plates in steam turbine blades provides several benefits, including:

  • Wear resistance: Cobalt alloy is known for its excellent wear resistance, which helps to reduce blade erosion and increase the blade’s service life.
  • High-temperature strength: Cobalt alloy has a high melting point and can withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for use in steam turbines, where temperatures can reach up to 540°C.
  • Corrosion resistance: Cobalt alloy is resistant to corrosion from steam and other corrosive elements, which helps to prolong the blade’s service life.

SYTOP can supply different specifications on strips upon request.

The difference between STP 6 and STP 6B

STP 6 and STP 6B are cobalt-chromium alloys commonly used in high-temperature and wear-resistant applications. An extensive hot forging process transforms STP 6 into the tough, wear-resistant STP 6B.
