Cobalt Based Alloy STP 12 Extrusion Die

Category

Cobalt Alloy extrusion die cores have excellent hot hardness at 500-800℃, good wear resistance, and better toughness than carbide. It is primarily for continuous extruders. Cobalt alloy is the first choice for extruding copper and aluminum profiles. The standard grades are ST3, ST12, and ST20. Any size of round and rectangular-shaped blanks is acceptable.

STP 12 extrusion die cores have excellent hot hardness at 500-800℃, good wear resistance, and better toughness than carbide. It is primarily for continuous extruders. STP Alloy is the first choice for extruding profile copper and aluminum. The standard grades are ST3, ST12, and ST20. Any size of round and rectangular-shaped blanks is acceptable.

The Advantage of cobalt alloy

There are some extrusion dies for comparative analysis.

The first one is H13, which is cheap but will anneal at 600℃. The hardness drops sharply, it does not have wear-resistant anymore. So, the lifespan is short.

The second one is Inconel 718; its wear resistance is much better than H13 at 600℃, but it also will anneal when the temperature is over 700℃。

The third one is carbide tungsten, it has high hardness, good wear resistance, but easy to crack.

The last one is Cobalt Alloy. It has high-temperature resistance, wear resistance at the same time, and it will not crack as easily as carbide. The lifespan of STP 12 extrusion dies is longer and very suitable for continuous extruders.
