Custom Seaming Rolls for Can Seaming Machines

SYTOP manufactures cobalt alloy seaming rolls for metal packaging equipment. The rolls are produced to the customer’s drawing or approved sample so the groove profile, bore, width and mounting features match the specified seamer setup.

These components are used where repeated contact with tinplate or aluminium creates abrasive wear and where food products, brines or cleaning media can expose tooling to corrosion. Cobalt alloy combines wear resistance, corrosion resistance and hot hardness for demanding seaming operations.

Typical Material: STP Alloy 20

STP Alloy 20 is a cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy selected for applications requiring high hardness and resistance to sliding and abrasive wear. The values below are nominal material data; the final material specification and acceptance criteria should be confirmed on the order.

Property Typical value
Material grade STP Alloy 20
Nominal composition, wt.% Co balance; Cr 30.0-34.0; W 14.0-19.0; C 2.0-3.0; Ni max. 3.0; Fe max. 3.0; Mo max. 1.0; Si max. 2.0
Typical hardness 55-60 HRC
Density 8.70 g/cm3
Surface option Precision-ground surface or TiC CVD coating

Applications

  • Food and beverage can seaming lines
  • Aerosol and general-line can closing equipment
  • First-operation and second-operation seaming stations
  • Replacement tooling for automatic double seamers

Optional TiC CVD Coating

For applications that require a coated working surface, TiC can be applied by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to the cobalt-alloy substrate. Coating selection, thickness, post-coating dimensions and acceptance criteria must be agreed before production because these parameters affect the finished seaming profile.

Manufacturing and Inspection

The manufacturing route is selected according to part geometry, tolerance and order quantity. Machining and precision grinding are used to produce the required bore, mounting faces and seaming profile.

  • Material composition verification
  • Dimensional inspection against the approved drawing
  • Groove profile and surface-finish inspection when specified
  • Hardness testing and inspection records when required by the purchase order

Information Required for a Quotation

Please provide the seamer make and model, first- or second-operation designation, a dimensioned drawing or reference sample, can and end details, material requirement, order quantity and any inspection-document requirements.
